copy my notes from getting 1.5M views
happy sunday peeps, let's make some moves!!!
I’m writing to you while making my way to see my family to take on a few weeks of caring for my Nani. Normally, I’d think of trips like this as knocks to my normal routine and a reason not to keep up my good habits.
But for those of you who follow either me (@devamsha) or FHG (@financialhotgirl), you’ll know that I’m challenging myself and all of you to 30 days of momentum building during July.
Not only that, I’ve opened up something super exciting: close friends. So today’s issue is a first ever preview of that, plus the exact notes I made from having a reel take off on Instagram and one article I think you have to read this week.

What I learned from 1.5m views
I am constantly experimenting with my content: trying new formats, hooks, lengths - and this week, I got 1.5m views in 4 days:
Before posting, I tried to do 3 things:
I kept the hook wide-ranging. I’ve been experimenting with having the text on screen speak to a specific person vs category of content, and in this one, I kept it vague: I address a big bucket of people with the the ‘big sis advice’ angle instead of saying something like ‘money advice’ or ‘financially hot advice’ - two other options I had
I provided a short list of all the content in the caption, containing the value in the post in an easy to digest way. It was a clearly readable list, short, punchy statements in my natural tone of voice
I then covered all my favourite topics; money, mind, body - in here
This allowed me to get the attention of the masses, then keep the attention of the specific audience by giving them more direct & nuanced content.
How can you apply this? Think of your next post as a funnel. Top of funnel - the one, broad statement that could easily apply to a lot of people. Bottom of funnel - the value (that you’re the expert in) that you provide to specific people within that broad statement.
Finally, spend only 20% of your time on trend based content and only when you can truly add value. You’re better spending 80% of your time crafting your story and creating valuable original content. E.g. for every 5 posts, jump on a trend for only one.
Quarter 3 is looming: my strategy
I love to start a quarter with a focussed sprint. It almost sets the tone for the following 2 months, but allows you to actually get a head start on your goals without having to push hard for the whole quarter.
If you want to do this alongside me and a group of focussed people working on their business, brains and body, join the Financial Hot Girl 30 day challenge.
We’re co-working, prioritising movement, doing deep work sessions and financial tracking for 30 days!
You only have until next Monday to join ⤵
P.S. if you want to join but you’re feeling resistance or excuses are cropping up - reply back and tell me what they are. Let’s talk through them (whether you join or not!)
I want to leave you with just one read this week: this article.
“Curiosity-driven clarity emerges more slowly through exploration. It’s the kind of clarity that develops when we’re willing to not know for a while — to ask questions, to try different approaches, to observe the results without rushing to conclusions.”
It spoke to me so deeply, and was a real kick up my backside to stop doing things out of anxiety and follow my natural curiosity (which is the very thing that started all my social media endeavours in the first place!).
See you in the comments,
— Dev xo
