how to *actually* make money as a creator
smart people will do this
If you post consistently online, you will make money. It’s inevitable.
This is a perspective shift I really wish I'd made earlier, so that I would have applied levels 1-3 to my own personal brand sooner, instead of taking 4.5 years to do so.
My part-time creator ethos is all rooted in:
Building a long term brand, part-time
Consistency & quality over quantity & virality
Slow growth and high demand
The way I’ve personally made money from my personal brand was really slow, but it was worth it. I didn’t accept my first few brand deals, I was really selective about who I worked with and I collected thousands of emails by accident.
If you want to know what to focus on and think about when starting a part-time personal brand, keep reading.
Long term profitability takes time
Profitability is essentially making as much money with as little cost possible. When applying this to a personal brand, I’m thinking about cost in a holistic sense: I want to keep the time, emotional and creative costs as low as possible.
To do this, there are 3 levels to making money as a creator:
Level 1: showing up consistently, generating data and understanding your audience demand
Level 2: turning that audience demand into ownership
Level 3: leveraging the ownership into income streams
You can’t do level 3 without levels 1 and 2, and if you do, you might make a quick buck but you won’t have a long term profitable brand.
If you jumped straight into making ebooks and courses with an audience you built on Instagram, and Instagram disappears overnight, there goes your income too!
I’ve broken all of these steps down in todays YouTube video, as well as how I actually did these steps without realising, and what I could’ve personally done better when trying to earn money as a creator. Watch it here.
The trick isn’t waiting for the money to roll in. It’s posting consistently. This is what most of us don’t do.
None of the brand deals, digital products, paid speaking gigs etc will ever happen if your content isn’t online and landing in front of the right people.
Remember that!!!
Soundbites you missed out on 🎧
This week Farah and I were chatting all things routines for the high-achieving amongst us.
Routines can sometimes feel like a faff, a waste of time, and ‘unproductive’ — but they actually facilitate so much of the stuff that we high-achievers ignore.
Things like rest, creativity and focus which ultimately make the times we do work way more productive.
Have a great week!
