the business of content creation
financial hot girl issue #47
A few summers ago, I was watching my boyfriend's AFL game with his parents and his dad said something that really stuck with me: "Q3 always determines the game. Good Q3, they win. Weak Q3, they lose. Always pay attention to Q3."
Now I'm staring at July 1st thinking about how true this is for business too.
𝜗ৎ In this issue:
Quick note: I had a few requests to do a 1:1 call without a document, and with a more open-ended objective. Some of you wanted advice on how to turn your content creation into a business or just review and audit your content plan for a week (as subscribers you get 7 days of voice note/email support with me too).
I’ve updated the booking page and price for you based on this.
The rise of the creatorpreneur
I've can’t stop thinking about the fact that creators who treat their content like R&D for actual businesses are the ones building generational wealth.
I think there’s two things at play here:
Creators who build a business to support their content (what I’ve learned A LOT about the last 1.5 years)
Creators to transition into a business independent of their content, using content to validate their ideas and launch products or services (i.e. the creator who builds an app to help other creators)
But when it comes to building a creator business, everyone's worried about the "ick" of selling, but the real ick is selling OUT.
The ick isn't when you sell something you genuinely believe will help your audience. The ick is when you push random brand deals for products you've never used, just because they're paying you.
When you build your own business and sell directly to your audience, you're not being salesy, you're literally being of service. You're solving problems you actually understand because you've lived them.
The cost of building your village
Since I took so long to get this out, I’ve since had MORE conversations around the business of motherhood. One creator and internet friend, Bukiie Smart Sulaiman, in particular has made some insightful content around this that I need you to watch.
P.S. something about the cost of raising a village speaks to me, even outside of this topic. Why does community feel like it’s something to be bought these days?

The significance of smashing quarter 3
July 1st marks Q3, and I keep thinking about what my boyfriend's dad said when we were watching an AFL game: Q3 always determines the game result.
Here's what I've noticed studying successful creatorpreneurs: they all use Q3 to build the systems that pay them in Q4 (and beyond tbh). They are:
Batch creating content for peak periods
Building distribution channels aggressively (Q4 is statistically when people buy)
Testing before peak season
Investing in systems that scale without burnout (to make next Q3 a summer break!)
I’m learning that creators who are making money aren't necessarily more talented, they're just better at timing their moves and being proactive.
