the tech i splurged on in 2024
i LOVE wellness tech
This week, we’re talking about my favourite tech and how I ‘proved’ the purchase frugally before the big spend.
I am the self-proclaimed financial hot girl and one of the things I heavily encourage is value-based spending.
One of my undeniable values is convenience when it comes to my wellness. In most recent months, some of my most expensive purchases have been into wellness related tech.
I haven’t regretted anything so far BUT… I still stand by investing into the smaller & cheaper version of your habits before you take the plunge financially.
1. My red light therapy mask
This one almost doesn’t count because my boyfriend bought me this (he is OBSESSED with red light therapy for sports recovery). But, I’d budgeted for it nonetheless.
→ I proved this purchase by sticking to my Gua Sha routine for the first 10 months of the year. Ironically, as soon as I got the red light mask I lost my poor wee Gua Sha. I’ve since replaced it with this facial reflexology tool which I still use 5-7 times a week.
I feel like it’s really brightened up my skin, and has encouraged me to have some time to myself each evening for 10 minutes as I bake in the red light. I’ve been extremely consistent with this since getting it 2.5 months ago!
2. Desk treadmill/walking pad
Look, if you haven’t heard me talk about my walking pad yet… I don’t know what to say to you!
I am the self-proclaimed queen of an efficient laptop lifestyle—my goal in life is to be able to do what I love (which all require my laptop) while being active.
Fitness is a relatively new part of my life, but one I’ve longed for, for a long time. So I had to make both an active and laptop lifestyle work in tandem.
So having a desk treadmill is the perfect solution for me. I mean, look at my step count average for last year:

When I purchased this (around £170 when I got mine in 2022) I ‘proved’ the purchase by sticking to a daily 20-30 minute walk at lunch or before work for at least 2 months.
I tried to avoid using the treadmill to become active, and rather use the treadmill to facilitate being more active.
3. Apple Watch
I’ve had my Apple Watch since 2018 and I’ve loved it. I am a huge Apple fangirl so having devices in the same ecosystem is a big win—however since becoming self-employed I’ve really not enjoyed the constant notifications on my wrist.
Since becoming more disciplined with running and strength training I’ve been considering a dedicated sports watch but honestly parting ways with an Apple device is emotionally difficult for me. I am attached.
I didn’t prove this purchase, unfortunately I bought this when I was in the depths of my financial anxiety and I worked at Apple at the time, so got some money off the purchase.
*These are items I was ready to purchase with my own money, and I’ve been able to work with these brands to try out the items until I’m comfortable to share (very grateful and can’t believe this is my reality!)
4. Medicube Age-R Booster Pro
I’m a big fan of tech over actual skincare, as I find an overwhelming skincare routine difficult to stick to consistently and also a waste of product.
Frankly, I live in a small flat and having too much stuff just feels meh.
Having a device that boosts the products I already own though…. big win! I actually did get to prove this purchase just before the Medicube team reached out (lucky girl syndrome really played its part here).
I committed to using my eye cream for 1 month regularly to prove I could insert a new task into my skincare routine. Now, I use the Booster Pro every 2 days religiously.
As someone with dry and dehydrated skin I adore this device. It makes me feel like my skin is actually drinking up all the good stuff in the products I use.
5. Ultrahuman Ring AIR
I am obsessed with health analytics as I love to know what’s going on with my own body.
One thing I want to invest into this year is a full body health scan too, so I’ll report back on this if I do it!
Before the team reached out, I proved this purchase for a few months by staying consistent with my Sleep tracking app. I only used this when I remembered to, and made it a rule that if I used it every night for 3 months, I could get another health tracking device.
I’ve been wearing the Ring AIR for 2 months now and I love the analytics it gives me—particularly around sleep and menstrual cycle. The fact that there’s no monthly subscription or hidden costs for your own data is a big win for me.

Before the Ultrahuman team reached out I had decided on UH instead of Oura because:
No monthly cost
The gold ring wasn’t more expensive
Ovulation/cycle tracking was free
A few of my fave athletes wear one!!
To be transparent, when they first sent me the ring, within a week it stopped working and it was a little difficult to get to a solution.
But this was over Christmas/New Year’s so I’m giving the team benefit of the doubt, because they were quick to send me a new ring and make sure everything’s been fine so far (without knowing I was working with them).
Since then it’s been unproblematic and awesome to use—the battery lasts 2-3 days, it tracks everything except my steps accurately which has been weird to calibrate but I’m still getting the hang of it!
I have a link and discount code to share if you want to get one yourself: DEVA10.
