your future self is begging you to do this
The one goal that makes all other goals easier (hint: you're avoiding it)
Here's what I realised this year: discipline isn't just another goal on your list, it's the master key that makes EVERY OTHER GOAL easier.
Let me explain why this matters so much for high-achievers like us who have approximately 47 tabs open in our brains at all times...
P.S. I’m running a NYE offer on my 1:1s! Check the email footer for more.
In this issue:
High leverage goal setting
This year I’ve done a lot less late night doom-scrolling (we've all been there)… classic self-sabotage moment. It usually preceded long guilt spirals. And while reflecting on this bad habit, I had a revelation:
Every time we choose discipline, we're not just winning today. We're making it 10x easier for Future Us to succeed. It's like compound interest for your habits. A true Financial Hot Girl trait.
And the science backs this up: research from the American Psychological Association shows that self-discipline is a stronger predictor of success than IQ.
This is exactly why I'm hosting a free Goal + Action Setting Workshop on December 30th at 7PM. Because we're too smart to keep spinning our wheels. It’s time to build the highest leverage goal we can build:
Here's what I mean by high leverage goals… they’re the foundations that make everything else easier. Think about it:
Mastering discipline makes it easier to stick to your workout routine, build your side hustle, AND maintain a morning routine
Improving your focus and deep work skills helps you write better content, learn faster, and solve complex problems in your business or career
Developing emotional intelligence helps you build stronger client relationships, lead teams better, and handle stress more effectively
Studies in neuroscience show that strengthening your focus is like upgrading your brain's operating system. It improves everything from decision-making to creativity.
Here's why this strategy is so powerful for ambitious overthinkers like us:
It cuts through decision fatigue: instead of juggling 15 different goals, you're focusing on the vital few that matter most
It creates a domino effect: small wins in these foundational areas build momentum across everything else
It prevents the classic perfectionist trap of trying to improve everything at once
It’s part of what I’m going through in the free workshop. We'll identify high leverage goals and create a system to actually follow through.
The key to goal setting is assuming success and getting smart.
If you know you could achieve all the things you want to achieve, then how could you make them easier up front? By choosing high leverage goals first.
I think Jan - March (Q1) is the perfect time to do a Winter Arc-esque focus sprint to work on these foundational, high-leverage goals. Stop seeing discipline as punishment and start seeing it as freedom.
Every time you follow through on a commitment to yourself, you're building trust with the most important person in your life – YOU.
Currently listening: Atomic Habits

I’m currently re-listening to Atomic Habits, a BIG fave.
My favourite quote this week: "You do not rise to the level of your goals. You fall to the level of your systems."
Instead of focusing on the end goal, design your environment to make discipline inevitable. (We'll dive deep into this during the workshop!)

💬 This week’s comment prompts:
What are the high leverage goals you could focus on that underpin your other goals? E.g. want to find a mentor? Maybe your high leverage goal could be posting on LinkedIn!
Do you normally set goals for the new year or see it as just another month to keep grinding?
Is there anything delusional on your goals list? My word for 2024 was delusional… I didn’t know I was going to quit my job. It worked out 🤣
