The "what happens if it goes wrong" muscle is the one nobody trains us in, and it is the one I most want my kids to have. Teaching a kid to ask "and then what?" about a purchase or a plan is the whole skill. Cheaper to learn it at ten with allowance money than at forty with a mortgage.

The stability vs safety distinction is something so many people don’t even realize they’re confusing and finances affect literally every part of your life yet it’s the thing we’re least taught. This is a really valuable issue and everyone should read it!
