This is such an honest way to name it. Needing less rarely starts with budgets or rules, it starts with changing how we measure our own worth. When validation moves inward, consumption quiets down naturally. That shift takes time, but it is real, and it lasts.
this is so good. total perspective shift, I love the comparison of a quick fix diet that we are on for awhile but fall right back into old habits once we have met the goal. thank you for sharing, walking away asking new questions of my consumption.
it’s an analogy I love to apply to money too! because the source is always the same. What we’re REALLY trying to do with our purchases. So glad this made you think, thanks for leaving this comment 💫
This hit home! I realize how seasonally I can have so much more control over my spending and then boom everything is all over the place. I will being talking about this with my therapist because this was so good! Thank you for sharing!
Thank you for reading, I feel honoured to have helped you become aware of some seasonal habit changes in your consumption!! I hope your next therapy session goes well!!
This is so important nowadays! Also, it’s good to focus on the fact that if you already have things you love to wear, and that look good on you, it’s pleasurable to repeat the outfits…also note, that fast fashion is most of the time really good quality too, that you can keep for years to come…like you said, it’s like a diet, and cheat days are essential to be happy while restricting oneself, so upgrading one piece in the closet once a month it’s satisfying without falling into excessive consumerism…🩶
Thank you for reading it, I’m so glad it resonated. Most of the ways I put this into practice are very non-financial and non-consumption related.
Sticking to my fitness habits so I feel good about myself, sleeping properly, keeping creative, avoiding comparison.. these things keep my opinion of myself at a high so that I don’t feel the need to fill a void with ‘stuff’!
I have spending rules too but they’re honestly much easier to follow when I don’t force myself to follow them by focussing on my daily habits and discipline 🤣

This is so good! Thank you for framing it like this!
Will be re-reading this several times to let it really seep in.
I’m so glad you loved it. It’s close to my heart! The feelings that kicked off my healthy financial habits were the ones related to my need for more!
Much needed! Thank you for this :)
